Arugam Bay sits on Sri Lanka's remote east coast, about 320 km from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo. There is no direct train, and the bus route involves at least one transfer and 9-10 hours of travel with luggage and a surfboard bag in tow.
Most travelers landing for a surf trip book a private taxi transfer directly from the airport. It takes roughly 7 hours by road, with a rest stop around the halfway point. Booking ahead means your driver is waiting at arrivals with a name sign, so there's no bargaining or waiting around after a long flight.
If you're arriving late at night, we recommend booking the transfer for the following morning and spending your first night near the airport — most of our drivers can advise on this when you book.
Safe journeys island-wide across Sri Lanka — taxis, rentals, stays and experiences in one booking.
